Boga Wreck Kubu

A deep wreck dive off the coast of Kubu

Boga Wreck Kubu

What is the Boga Wreck Kubu?

The Boga Wreck, often referred to as the Kubu Wreck, is one of Bali’s newer and more dramatic wreck dives. The vessel was deliberately sunk in 2012 and now rests on a sandy seabed off the coast of Kubu, a short drive from Tulamben.

Originally a Dutch-built cargo vessel approximately 40 metres long, the Boga was intended to settle at a shallower depth. Over time, natural movement and environmental conditions have caused it to shift deeper, and it now lies between approximately 18 and 40 metres.

Why dive at the Boga Wreck Kubu?

The Boga is a large, intact wreck that offers a strong sense of scale underwater. The gradual descent allows divers to approach the site slowly before the bow emerges into view.

Its depth and size make it particularly rewarding for experienced divers who enjoy exploring structure and space. Divers can swim around the exterior or, where appropriate, explore selected interior sections.

It is one of the best sites in the area for those looking for a deeper wreck experience beyond the Liberty.

What can you see at the Boga Wreck Kubu?

The Boga Shipwreck offers both structural interest and marine life. Divers regularly encounter:

  • The bow, hull and deck structure of the wreck
  • The propeller and external ship features
  • Selected interior sections for experienced divers
  • Octopus, nudibranchs and lobsters along the descent
  • Reef fish living around and beneath the wreck
  • Hard and soft coral growth beginning to establish on the structure
  • Schooling barracuda circling above the wreck
  • Hunting jacks moving through open water”

Schooling barracuda are often seen circling above the wreck, with hunting jacks moving through open water around the structure.

The wreck also features several unusual additions placed after sinking, including Buddha statues, old scuba tanks and a VW car, adding character to the dive.
