Tulamben Drop Off

A dramatic reef and wall dive in Tulamben

Tulamben Drop Off

What is the Tulamben Drop Off?

Tulamben Drop Off is a striking reef and wall dive site located directly along the shoreline in Tulamben. The dive begins from the beach, descending along a rocky slope before opening into one of the area’s most dramatic underwater landscapes.

As the reef drops away, the wall falls steeply into deep blue water, creating a strong sense of depth and scale. The combination of reef slope and vertical wall gives this site a very different feel compared to the nearby wreck dives.

Why dive at the Tulamben Drop Off?

Tulamben Drop Off stands out for its terrain. The mix of reef slope, overhangs and sheer wall creates constantly changing scenery throughout the dive.

Visibility is often good, and the wall appears to fade into the distance, giving divers the feeling of swimming alongside open ocean. Recreational divers can comfortably explore the reef and upper wall, while deeper sections extend well beyond standard limits.

Many divers enjoy pairing this site with the USAT Liberty to experience both a natural wall dive and a historic wreck in the same day.

What can you see at the Tulamben Drop Off?

Marine life at Tulamben Drop Off is varied and diverse. Divers regularly encounter:

  • Healthy hard and soft coral growth along the slope and wall
  • Moray eels hidden in reef crevices
  • Nudibranchs and other macro life in sheltered areas
  • Peacock mantis shrimp in sandy sections
  • Leaf scorpionfish blending into coral
  • Butterflyfish, angelfish and parrotfish along the reef
  • Larger reef fish including Napoleon wrasse”

Marine life varies with conditions, but the diversity across both shallow and deeper sections is one of the site’s main attractions.
